Fall Semester Begins for UCP WORK, Inc. FREE Special Education Field Trip Program

By UCP Work, Inc. on Nov 04, 2014 at 02:35 PM

The Fall harvest is in full swing and for nearly forty local special education classes this means pumpkin patch time ... hay rides, tractors, scarecrows, corn mazes and lots and lots of pumpkins!  Despite diminished funds, UCP WORK, Inc. continues to provide free community-based field trip experiences to South Santa Barbara County and West Ventura County special education students.  (Select Children’s Community Program and accompanying Photo Gallery on this website.)Participants in this program reside in predominantly low or poverty level income households and could otherwise not afford to partake in most of the educational and recreational community outings provided by UCP WORK, Inc.  Students in this program experience a variety of developmental disabilities including autism, downs syndrome, hearing impairment, cerebral palsy and a myriad of neurological conditions.

The Children’s Community Program operates solely on income derived from family foundation grants, coin canisters and individual donations. Due to a very significant drop in contributions, this program has been reduced from serving nearly sixty classes, five days per week, from 2007 – 2013, to now providing field trips two to three times per week to local pre-school through post high school special education classes.
