Julie Sorenson
Julie has lived in Santa Barbara for 24 years and was raised up the coast in San Luis Obispo.  She graduated from Cal Poly and has a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development/Family Studies with a minor in Psychology.  Her work experience began with direct care and management in group homes.  She worked at Devereux for ten years, working primarily as a medical Case Manager.  She also worked for sbparent.com/Parentclick.com doing Marketing/Sales for seven years.  She currently does customer service for Sprigeo, an online bullying reporting software used in schools across the country and also with Leading From Within managing social media.  Julie is also the Katherine Harvey Fellows Alumni Coordinator and also volunteers as a captain for the Women's Fund of Santa Barbara and Board Co-Chair for Angels Bearing Gifts. 

Cindy Steffen 

Cynthia Steffen

Cindy joined the UCP WORK, Inc. Board of Directors in 2013.  Cindy has over 30 years of financial management experience in both public and private healthcare, construction and technology companies as well as several non-profits. She has held a variety of financial executive level positions. Most recently she provides consulting/management services on finance, information technology, budget and forecast functions as well as streamlining of processes for top-line growth.

Early in her career, Cindy held roles of increasing responsibility at KPMG LLP. Her public accounting experience focused primarily on managing mid to large cap engagements in the insurance and health care industry. Cindy is a Certified Public Accountant and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Rebecca Koch - Treasurer

Ms. Koch is a skilled and compassionate attorney who enjoys helping her clients to achieve their personal and business goals. Her practice focuses primarily on estate planning, probate, trust administration, business and real estate transactions.  Before opening her practice in 2014, Ms. Koch worked in a variety of sectors, including government and non-profit organizations, business, mental health, and fiduciary services. 

Ms. Koch is a Santa Barbara native, and returned to the area in 2013, following a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area followed by a short stint in Phoenix, Arizona. Ms. Koch earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of Arizona (inactive).  She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Studies from U.C. Santa Cruz.

Jarice S. Butterfield, Ph.D. - Secretary

Jarice Butterfield, PhD, received her doctorate degree from the University of California Santa Barbara in Education Leadership & Organizations with an emphasis in Special Education and School Psychology. She also has a Masters Degree in Special Education from California State University Northridge and a Masters Degree from University of California Santa Barbara in Education Leadership & Organizations. She completed her Bachelor Degree at the University of Wyoming in Elementary and Special Education. She has a multiple subject and Ed Specialist Credential (LH and prior SH), as well as an Authorization in Traumatic Brain Injury. She also has a Language Development and Resource specialist Certificate.

Jarice has worked as a special educator and administrator in many capacities and at all grade levels and currently serves as the Santa Barbara County SELPA Director.
