Helping People become Independent

Health and Wellness Program

Santa Barbara Health and Wellness Program

This new and innovative program helps people to connect with resources that strengthen independence, self-esteem, healthy living, and a sense of belonging to a community.  We focus on strategies that promote healthy choices, and increase access to innovative health services by providing information, scholarships, instruction, and staff support to activities available through our organization and throughout the community.  We provide hands-on training, diverse experiential outings, personalized coaching, and accessible transportation to enriching therapeutic activities, as follows:

  • Adapted fitness & exercise groups
  • Group & Individual Yoga classes
  • Aquatic Therapy
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Healthy meal preparation
  • Independent cooking instruction - including dietary needs for diabetes, high cholesterol, gluten-free, etc.
  • Healthy sexuality education and support
  • Preventative health practices and self-care
  • The Rhythmic Arts Project (TRAP drumming program)
  • Therapeutic Horse-back riding through Hearts Adaptive Riding
  • Self-defense
  • Advocacy and support with doctors, therapists, and health specialists

At all times, we continue to be a leader in advocating for increased community integration opportunities that promote inclusion and enhance the public’s perception and understanding of people with disabilities.
