Intensive Services: Every Day is a New Day

For many years, the State Developmental Centers (“DC’s” once referred to as State Hospitals) were considered the end of the road for individuals with developmental disabilities. Throughout the 40’s and 50’s parents filled the hospitals with their children, and to date, many still reside in the same “institution” as they did as a small child, and some have been sent as adults. Through the Regional Center’s Community Placement Project (CPP), many of these individuals are moving out of the institution and in to their own community.

UCP WORK, Inc. has been committed to, and instrumental in assisting individuals through the CPP program in transitioning these people in to their own homes and community. For an individual who has spent the greater part of their life living in an institution, transition can be an imposing and difficult experience. UCP WORK, Inc. staff are here to assist them in finding a home, supplying it with all the necessities, finding the right housemates, social enrichment and exploring work opportunities.
