Local Boy Scout Selects UCP WORK, Inc. as Beneficiary of Eagle Scout Project

By Rae van Seenus on May 04, 2019 at 04:17 PM in UCP Work Inc Blog

As part of earning the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts, Wil van Seenus, a 14 year old student at La Colina Junior High, has to complete a service project for a non-profit organization of his choosing. The project consists of completing a project proposal, researching suppplies and resources, budgeting, recruiting volunteers, and fundraising. Wil had the desire to provide a service project that would be useful to people in the community over the long-term and he chose UCP WORK, Inc.

At the time, UCP WORK, Inc. was looking for someone to complete a construction project in an existing classroom, so it made for a perfect fit for Wil's Eagle Project. Through a GoFundMe campaign and Boy Scout donation letters, Wil raised over $900 towards construction supplies and has already started to get to work! He and his team of volunteers are constructing a wall in a large classroom space at the UCP WORK, Inc. Applied Abilities program at the Westside Community Center. The wall will  help to make the room into two rooms, making it more functional for teaching computer classes, job placement, and other activities for the people served through UCP WORK, Inc.
