By Rae van Seenus on Aug 20, 2019 at 08:26 PM in UCP WORK, Inc. Blog

Where are you originally from?

I was born and raised in Santa Maria, California. My dad’s side is from Puerto Rico and my mom's side is from Pennsylvania.

What other positions have you had with UCP WORK, Inc.? Or what were you doing before this new position?

Before this position, I worked as a Lead Health Aide at Atterdag Village of Solvang. I worked there for 4 years.

What is it you like best about the type of work you do?

I love the people! Being around such great individuals and getting to be a part of their lives is the most rewarding thing about this job.

Briefly describe a work story that really made a difference in your own or another person’s life?

There have been many times in my life, while working with people with disabilities, that has made a big impact on my life. Once, I was working with someone who was non-verbal and many people had told me this individual didn't like to do anything except stem and that he was unable to get ready on his own or shower on his own. I worked for weeks on getting him to be more independent and to do simple tasks. It was only after working with him for four months that he got up one day and signaled the restroom. I told him to go ahead and he was then able to shower on his own, get dressed, and do some gardening, before making breakfast. In that moment, I was so happy! He went from being someone that couldn’t do anything for himself, to someone who loves his new found independence.

Do you have a favorite quote, special talent, favorite hobby, or anything else you would like to share about yourself? It can be anything!

I've been singing my whole life! In high school and in college, I was selected for the top choirs in California. I sing for fun now and in music therapy for people with Alzheimer's and dementia. I also just started doing Jiu Jitsu at the Santa Maria Brazilian Jiu Jitsu center.

Thank you Victoria -- We are proud to have you on the Santa Maria UCP WORK, Inc. Team!
