Announcing Recipient of 20 Year Anniversary Award

It is our pleasure to announce the recipient of the UCP WORK, Inc. 20 Year Anniversary award, Renee DeLauer, Director of Independent & Supported Living Services in Santa Maria! "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Renee. She has been working in both residential and supported living services for many years, and she has embraced supported living and person centered services. Because Renee leads by example, the people that we serve live truly inclusive lives within their chosen communities. She is deeply committed to service and she ensures that the direct support staff receive excellent training. I love Renee's positive outlook and her great sense of humor!" - from Kathy Webb, Executive Director.

Q&A with Renee:

  1. Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in the Santa Maria area? When I was born, we lived in Nipomo, moved to Pennsylvania for a year, then to Santa Maria where I have lived since I was 6 years old.

  2. What position did you start with at UCP WORK, Inc. and for how many years? My starting position was a Job Coach for about 2.5 years.

  3. What job did you have prior to working here? Before UCP WORK, Inc., I worked as an Office Manager.

  4. When did you start your current position as Director of Independent and Supported Living Services? April of 2019.

  5. What is it you like most about the work you do? Building relationships with the people I work with, watching them grow and seeing the happiness on their face when they are able to do things for themselves that they didn't think they could, and promoting independence!

  6. What are your strengths and/or specific qualities that you find are the most beneficial in working with individuals with disabilities? Some of my strengths are remaining calm in a stressful situation, being patient and open minded, being organized, good time management skills, and a positive attitude. 
  7. How has the organization positively changed over the last 20 years? The organization has made great progress. When I started in Santa Maria, there were a few staff members and just a handful of individuals, and two level 4 residential homes.  We have really changed, using the Person Centered Thinking. We are able to open so many doors for the people we work with, because there is nothing I can do, that they can't! I am very proud to say I work at UCP WORK, Inc.

  8. What do you like to do in your free time outside of work, hobbies, etc? I love to spend time with my family in my free time, go camping at the lake, go to the beach, go for Sunday drives.  I like to draw and paint, Bingo, bowling, and relax watching a good documentary.
